My Jeep Wave Score
The Jeep Wave is a courtesy extended between Jeep owners that goes back as far was World War II. The wave acknowledges a shared understanding and appreciation of the Jeep’s amazing capabilities and the enjoyment of ownership. Naturally, some waves are worth more than others.
With about a month logged on my Jeep Willys, I’ve taken it camping, kayaking, for a little urban offroading. Here’s my Jeep Wave Score broken down.
Jeep Waving Hierarchy
- Category G (10 Points)
Jeep Talk does not have a category for the Jeep JK, but I have to believe this model fits between the TJ and Cherokee. I’ll take the 10 points, but think the JK is worth 12. Some Jeep owners would take exception to this idea, however.
Modifying Sub-Categories (MSC)
- MSC 5: Somewhat Dirty (No Points)
When we were camping in early June, we achieved MSC 2 because the top was partially off and some occupants were covered with mud. I opted not to take the 20 points.
Equipment Adjustments
- Stock 6-Cylinder: 1 point
- Tires, Any Size, Currently Covered with Mud: 2 points
- Fire Extinguisher: 1 point
- Ropes, Straps, Tow Chain: 1 Point
- Tow Hooks: 1 Point
- Nerf Bars, Shiny, No Scars: -1 Point
- First Aid Kit: 1 point
- Children in Vehicle: 1 point for proper training
- Correct Mental Attitude: 3 Points
- CB or Other Communication Tool: 1 Point
- Bringing a New Jeeper into the Family: 5 Points
As an amateur radio operator, I was dismayed that CB or Other Communication Tools only receive one point. Installing a 100-watt shortwave transceiver is a major improvement (and a lot more work to install) than CB. Maybe 2 points?
Battle Scars
- No Scars: -3 Points
Final Jeep Wave Score: 28 Points
